Welcome to Ballard Family Dentistry and thank you for choosing us! We would like to take this time to share with you some
of our beliefs and explain our policies.
Dr. Jonathan Su grew up in Seattle. After graduating from the University of Washington Dental School and training in Boston
he returned to Seattle to complete his training at Harborview Medical Center and the University Hospital. Dr. Su is
trained in a variety of modern techniques and he emphasizes prevention and cavity control. You can be assured that the diagnosis
and treatment plan you receive will be based on these principles.
Your initial exam will be thorough. We will measure your gum pockets, perform a head and neck exam, take a
full series of films, then inform you of and explain any treatment that Dr. Su feels is necessary. The front office
staff will give you a treatment plan, explain insurance and financial options, and answer any questions you may have, and
set up any additional appointments.
Amalgam (Mercury) fillings have been the standard for many decades. Recently however, there has been a rise in controversies
and concerns surrounding amalgam fillings. There have been no studies proving the toxicity of these fillings and we do not
recommend replacing old amalgams. Amalgam must be handled as a toxic substance and disposed of accordingly. Because
of rising controversy and because many patients have expressed concerns, we have chosen to use only composite fillings.
While esthetically more appealing they are more expensive and often not completely covered by insurance companies. Therefore,
you may be responsible for this difference.
We recognize that for many people dentistry can be a very difficult procedure. Many people have had traumatic experiences
at the dentist and are distrusting of any new dentist. If you have any concerns, we encourage you to share them with us. We
are committed to providing high quality dentistry with a gentle touch. There are many things we can and will do to make you
as comfortable as possible. However, it is hard for us to anticipate if you don’t share your concerns with us.
We are concerned for our environment here at Market Family Dentistry. As we have stated we no longer use amalgam.
This reduces toxic waste. We also recycle paper, cardboard, plastics and other items. We try to limit the paper we use
in the office and we recycle and carefully dispose of the lead foil packaged in the radiography films. If you have any
suggestions of other ways we can “clean-up” our business we would love to hear them!
Please take the time to fill out the attached forms before you come to the office. We would appreciate it if you
arrived 15 minutes before your appointment time. We will use this time to verify all your information and answer any
questions you may have. If you need to cancel an appointment please call at least 48 hours before your scheduled time
to avoid a cancellation fee of $75/hour. Once again we would like to welcome you to Ballard Family Dentistry!
