At Ballard Family Dentistry, we believe that optimal dental health starts with a thorough initial examination. New patient comprehensive exams are generally three parts.
First, a staff member will take you to your room and perform an initial screening. We will ask general medical and dental related questions, perform a blood pressure screening, and discuss your primary concerns regarding your first visit with us. After general assement, we will take digital x-rays of your teeth. We welcome all x-rays taken from your previous dentist. However, many x-rays we receive from other offices are old, poor quality, or undiagnosable. In this case, our office will take x-rays needed to complete your comprehensive exam.
After the initial screening, our dental hygienist will assess your periodontal health. While many patients brush, floss, and visit their dentist often - some patients may not have access to regular dental care and have not seen a dentist for several years. In either case, our dental hygienist will begin your cleaning the same day. Depending on your periodontal health and oral homecare, we may schedule a follow-up appoinment to complete the cleaning your mouth deserves.
After your time with our hygienist, Dr. Su will begin his examination. Dr. Su will perform a head and neck exam, oral cancer screening, and then inform you of and explain any treatment necessary. Our staff will take in-mouth camera pictures of any teeth that require treatment and will share these pictures with you. This helps our patients understand their teeth and aid in future prevention. If there is any future treatment needed, the front office staff will give you a treatment plan, explain insurance and financial options, and answer any questions you may have.
For many people, dentistry can be a very difficult procedure. Many people have had traumatic experiences at their past dentist and are distrusting of any new dentist. If you have any concerns, we encourage you to share them with us. We are committed to providing high quality dentistry, open communication, and a gental touch.
